Dane:Lata 90. XX w. Nieznane monstrum atakuje na Pacyfiku japoński statek. Amerykański naukowiec, doktor Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick), rozpoczyna badanie tego wypadku. Dołącza do niego tajemniczy Francuz, Philippe Roaché (Jean Reno). Tymczasem potwór nazywany Godzillą pojawia się w Nowym Jorku i atakuje miasto. Przybyły na miejsce Niko odkrywa kilkaset jaj gada. Z pomocą Philippe'a próbuje zapobiec katastrofie.
